Fall Is Just Around the Corner
The beginning of fall is one of the most perfect seasons for finding that new great album to listen to. Something cozy and bright and warm and colorful. It's always been one of my favorite times of year to make a mixtape.
I don't think I'll be making the cozy, warm mixtape this year (other ideas a-brewing), but that doesn't mean I don't want to listen to those records.
The Helio Sequence's Keep Your Eyes Ahead is one of my favorites. You should check it out. Would love to know one of yours!
I'll be making two physical copies of September's mix, Office Hours, once we're allowed to leave our apartments. Hit me up, as always, if you want it. <3
Office Hours
Created for honky tonk hangs.
It was my birthday on September 1st, and this is the first time in maybe 5 years that I didn't get to spend it at Skinny Dennis forcing all of my friends to listen to honky tonk. Lucky enough for everyone, I've decided to bring the honky tonk to you!
A while back I decided to call my hangs at Skinny Dennis "Office Hours" because I essentially hold down the bar and love it when people pass through, coming and going as they will. I'm happy to stay there all night, so I will.
This mixtape is full of honky tonk gold, a little bit rowdy and a whole lot of fun. There's good times and bad decisions, and I recommend cracking open an ice cold High Life or Lone Star or Shiner or whatever your poison and two steppin' the night away.
Here's to you old skinny Dennis
Only one I think I will miss
Love you all. Hope you enjoy!
Join Me: Listen to the New Spiked Candy Spring Mix
I've mentioned Spiked Candy before, but it's worth noting again: it's long been one of my favorite music blogs. I've found so many songs and artists I've grown to love through Christine and her site, and I'm super excited to give this mix a spin. The sun's just coming out for spring in Australia, so she's hooked us all up with some sunny tunes.
In her words: "spring has sprung in my part of the world, and this mix is the perfect accompaniment to warm days, bright blooms and bluer skies. I know that for most of my readers, it's the beginning of autumn, but I think this also works nicely with those fading summer memories. Wherever you are, whatever the weather, this collection evokes floating through sunny skylines, the world's troubles below too tiny below you to matter."
Listen to this mix: in my beautiful balloon
RIYL: light, sunny tunes
Also, bookmark Spiked Candy! It's always wonderful!
Skinny Dennis Regulars You Can Support That I Love
(that you might love too!)
The National Reserve - The National Reserve rules. They have coincidentally played my birthday at Skinny Dennis probably three times? My dude has a hell of a voice, and they shred. I've also coincidentally seen them open for a number of great country acts that have come through town. Always a good time.
Zephaniah OHora - Zephaniah just released a fantastic new album, and I'm super excited to receive my vinyl in the mail (hopefully soon!). He's been known to play some Merle and some Dead, and he has held down Skinny Dennis more times than most.
Margo Valiante - Margo I've only seen once or twice at Skinny Dennis, but she was fantastic. Such a commanding presence and voice. She rules, I hope she's well, and I hope you like her too!
Cliff Westfall - Cliff played Skinny Dennis last year on my birthday, which was a huge thrill because I love his record A LOT. He gave me a CD copy that night for my birthday, and I just recently picked it up on vinyl. What a guy!
