I've Been Taking Really Long Walks
It's been a really good way to force myself outside and actually get any bit of physical activity when I could spend my entire day on the couch catching up on every television show anyone's ever told me to watch.
I've also found it to be an excellent opportunity to listen to new music. I'll set out for an hour and a half and get two albums in. I love it. Can't recommend it enough.
I'll be making two physical copies of July's mix, baby, once we're allowed to leave our apartments. Hit me up, as always, if you want it. <3

Created for dance floor romance.
I miss dancing to pop songs I don't know. I just like dancing and getting sweatier on the dance floor than anyone else in the building. It's not sexy or cool, but I don't need it to be. But...what if it were?
I felt like making a mix of some stuff I normally might not. There's no archival folk recordings here. Just some good ol' dark, sexy, fun, good time music.
I essentially made it because I love Rihanna so much, and she sets much of the mood here with "Needed Me". There's plenty of major pop players here, but also some other throwback and weirdo stuff thrown in for kicks.
Love you all. Hope you enjoy!
Join Me: Listen to Light in the Attic's Summer Playlist
I have pretty recently become obsessed with the record label Light in the Attic. I've bought records from them before, but I found that fairly often I'd see a release that piqued my interest, and I'd wind up on their site again and again.
Eventually I just sat and scrolled through their entire catalogue. Guess what, I want everything they've ever released. For sure.
They do a lot of incredible DEEP CUT reissues, with an exceptional collection of international music. I knew I loved them when I saw how much Brazilian music they stocked, including from one of my all-timers, Marcos Valle.
In particular I've been digging their Japanese City Pop releases lately. Strong recommend.
Anyways, they released a summer mix on Spotify, and it features a bunch of the best stuff from their catalogue. It's a really fun collection of songs, and you should give it a spin!

Other Record Labels I Love
(that you might love too!)
Mississippi Records - Another archival reissue label. I've grabbed some old blues/country stuff from this label that blows me away. But also, a record by a Peruvian Huyano singer that I adore. This is definitely the label where you just pull the trigger based on your gut, and you're going to end up with a gem.
Smithsonian Folkways Recordings - Look, America has an enormously rich history of musicianship, and a lot of it is near forgotten. I refuse to be part of that, and Smithsonian Folkways is helping me unearth a lot of beautiful music.
Death Waltz Recording Co. - If you like horror movie soundtracks, boy do I have the record label for you. They do really cool pressings with gorgeous artwork of some of the weirdest and coolest soundtracks out there. If you've ever been to Alamo Drafthouse, they stock these records all the time.
Third Man Records - Jack White has a record label that does it right. I really just think it's so cool that he created a label, a pressing plant, and is using his platform to feature incredible new talent, but also help reissue important music from incredible artists like Albert Ayler and France Gall.
